How to Checkmate with the King & Queen
If you’ve already read how to checkmate with the rook & the King, the King & queen checkmate will be a breeze.
Checkmating your opponent in chess with the King & the Queen is fairly simple so long as you don’t make any mistakes, such as placing your queen in a position to be captured by your opponent’s King.
Today, we’ll cover how to effectively checkmate your opponent’s King with only the King & queen.
How to Checkmate with the King & Queen
In order to checkmate with King & the queen in chess, it’s simply a matter of getting your opponent’s King in one of the corners of the chessboard, placing the King in check with the queen, and having your King protecting your queen for checkmate.
In the scenario below, we have the King trapped by the queen on row 8, and we are now ready to place our opponent’s King in checkmate. What you’ll do is continuously move your King down the chessboard toward row H, gradually pushing your opponent’s King to the corner of the chessboard.
Once your opponent’s King is in the corner, or near it, you move your queen down row 7 in front of your opponent’s King, for checkmate, as seen below.
It’s important to note that your own King is very important here, as your queen will be captured by the King if your own King is not there to protect her.
